Brenda Oyervides: Capturing A Vibrant Reality

Brenda Oyervides is a 20 year old photographer from Houston who has always had a love for cameras. After starting to make short films at the age of 8, Brenda got into photo journalism and photography became a hobby for her. Soon after, she began connecting with promoters and other creators, helping her grow as a photographer. The photos she captures often have vibrant, popping colors that really bring them to life. How would you describe your style of photography? What got you to this point in your photography career?

My style I would say is what ever song i’m listening to, or dream I had prior to the shoot is really what comes out. I go for creating something new, or something that catches the eye.
So, [to get to this point] I started doing concerts, but then I started meeting people, and getting connections. I also started getting noticed on twitter, so that’s where a lot of my business comes from.

You seem to work a lot with color – lots of your work is rather vibrant, which I like a lot. How important is color to you and what exactly does it mean in your photography?

Vibrant colors speak to my soul. I actually enjoy an image with vibrant colors, it’s just so amazing to be able to experience that. Colors play a big role on my photography, I try to show a different view to life. Most of the places I go to take pictures are really ugly, but I love bringing them alive by manipulating the colors.  I usually have vivid, vibrant dreams or thoughts, and as I like to say “I make dreams a reality.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like (on Twitter) you incorporate some graphic design into your work. How often do you work with graphic design?

I don’t work too much on graphic designing, but I love to do it when I feel like an image needs more. I actually do plan on using it more in the future, so stay tuned for that.

What inspires you and your work?

Frank Ocean, Tame Impala, The Babe Rainbow. Listening to them sparks ideas into my mind, and also dreams! Also, my mind is always in thinking mode.

What goals do you have for yourself as a photographer?

I’d love to eventually work with a magazine, work with amazing artists in the near future, and also travel. Mainly, keep my mental health great to keep creating and eventually show the whole world what I have to offer.
